The partnership between Mercado Livre and TikTok raises an important question for brands and creators: how to connect product discovery with a purchase. The advertising partnership was presented at Cannes Lions in June 2026, according to Tela Viva. International examples help explain what this development could mean for content commissioning.
What the integration actually does
Social Commerce Video Ads uses Mercado Livre shopper data for TikTok campaigns managed through the Mercado Ads DSP. Documentation checked on September 22 still specifies an awareness objective, with marketplace actions measured. Completed views and quartile views remain marked “coming soon”. Access and availability should be confirmed with Mercado Ads.
For creators, the commercial distinction is straightforward: producing an ad that sends shoppers to another marketplace is a different arrangement from selling as a TikTok Shop affiliate. The purchase destination, scope of work and compensation need to be agreed before filming.
Walmart: retail data applied to social advertising
In the United States, Walmart reported a TikTok pilot in June 2023 that combined retail targeting and measurement. Average engagement was twice TikTok’s standard benchmarks for U.S. campaigns. That is an engagement result, not a claim that sales doubled.
Renoir’s assessment: a clear video and a well-defined commercial audience can complement each other. A comparable test should specify the product, intended audience, objective and reporting method in the brief.
Amazon: fewer steps from ad to purchase
In August 2024, TikTok announced Amazon purchases through selected ads in the United States, with Amazon checkout inside the app. The announcement describes the experience but does not report a sales uplift attributable to the integration.
The strategy is to reduce steps. Creatively, that requires consistency between what the video demonstrates and what shoppers can buy. An accurate demonstration, without accessories or terms absent from the offer, is more useful for this purpose than a piece judged only by reach.
Shopee: content as an ongoing operation
Shopee parent Sea reported that livestreams and short videos represented over 20% of physical-goods orders in Southeast Asia in Q2 2025. It also recorded over 7 million YouTube videos with Shopee links in June. The order figure covers livestreams and short videos; it is not a result attributable solely to YouTube.
This illustrates the scale content can reach within a commerce operation. In Renoir’s analysis, creators can respond by building a library of demonstrations and purchase questions that can be updated. That supports ongoing category work instead of relying entirely on one-off posts.
How TikTok Shop creators can build on this
The commercial opportunity is to broaden the scope of brand work. Renoir recommends discussing three deliverables separately: video production; advertising usage with defined channels and duration; and any sales-based compensation. These are negotiating models, not automatic benefits of the Mercado Livre and TikTok partnership.
Within TikTok Shop, March 2026 documentation explains that affiliate videos authorized for Shop Ads may earn commissions on eligible sales. Authorization and collaboration settings matter. Before accepting a campaign, check the conditions shown in your account and the market where you operate.
One proposal, devised by Renoir: produce three versions of a demonstration, each answering a different question; specify which may be used in ads; agree on a review with the brand; and price further versions based on what is learned. The video count is illustrative. The value lies in production and revision, without promising sales volumes.
What to measure before increasing investment
Renoir recommends a test with a defined product, period and budget. Assess content response, the shopping behaviour available in reports and the creator’s actual earnings separately. When comparing versions, also record price, inventory and offer changes: these help explain why one video sold more than another.
For the brand, the next decision should be concrete: keep the approach, adjust the demonstration or test another product. For the creator, that same history can support a recurring engagement. International examples point to different approaches; the right model depends on where the sale happens and how the content is paid for.
