In a September 4 announcement, TikTok introduced new comment formats. For brands and creators, the update raises a practical question: how should teams manage the conversation after a video? Below, we distinguish the platform’s announced conditions from Renoir’s planning recommendations.

What was announced
According to TikTok, polls and Live Photos are available globally. Voice comments of up to 60 seconds for accounts aged 18 or older, and carousels of up to nine photos, are rolling out globally over the month following the announcement.
Before including a format in a contract or schedule, we recommend checking whether it appears in the creator’s account. For a Brazilian campaign, this prevents production from depending on a feature that is not yet available to that profile.
Ask a question that informs the next video
In Renoir’s analysis, the most useful application starts with a concrete decision. A product demonstration can ask which detail deserves another video. An episodic story can invite interpretations of its characters. The question should relate to what the audience has just watched.
Agree with the creator who will review responses and when they will be discussed with the brand. A question with no one responsible for reading the answers can become just another deliverable. Planning that follow-up lets the team turn recurring questions into material for the next script.
Responses do not replace commercial results
A poll helps teams understand the people who chose to join that conversation. It should not be presented as representative research of the entire market. Stated preference, product interest and purchases should also be kept separate: each answers a different project need.
To assess a test, we suggest recording the question’s purpose, the observation period and which responses changed a creative decision. This review can sit alongside the campaign’s available metrics. More comments alone do not prove higher sales or guarantee distribution for the next video.
How to test without disrupting the campaign
Start with a post whose subject supports a focused conversation. Prepare a text alternative, agree on the approach with the creator and set aside time to review responses. The chosen format should make participation easier; it does not need to dominate the whole piece.
Then document what the team learned: a missing explanation, a concern about use or a narrative choice that prompted discussion. That record helps determine whether the feature belongs in other deliverables. Test with a purpose, connecting creative work, audience responses and evaluation.
